It is with great delight that the team here at A Life Unexpected extend our heartfelt congratulations to Bob Lay for his naming in the recent Australia Day Honours List as the recipient of an Order of Australia for significant service to sports administration and athletics in Victoria through a range of executive positions, and to the community in general.

Currently General Manager of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, a position he has held since 2005, Robert Lay AM has been involved in Athletics in various capacities since his time in competition, when he represented Australia in Track & Field in the 1962 Empire & Commonwealth Games and the 1964 Olympic Games.  Since then, Bob has held the positions of President and Committee Member of the Olympians Club of Victoria (for just over 21 years), Executive Director of the Victorian Olympic Council (1991-2001), Board Member of Athletics Victoria and President of Athletics International (1997-2012), among many other roles.

We were delighted to also be able to interview him late last year for the documentary about his time working at Adidas in Marketing and, during that time, his association with Franz, as well as his own career in Athletics.

Bob has been a great supporter of this project and we are so pleased that he is being recognized in this way for all his tireless efforts towards promoting and supporting excellence in Athletics and Sport in Australia.

Congratulations Bob – we’re off to affix the new letters to your credit in the film with great happiness and pride!
